Warmer Lighting 2700k - 3000k
This light temperature is most often created using incandescent bulbs. It does occur in nature in warm sunrises and sunsets—but less commonly in the UK. Neutral paint colours will take on the yellow-orange glow, and mid-to-dark tones will feel deep and rich.

Neutral Lighting 3500k - 4000k
With the least obvious impact on paint colours, this lighting range is the most stable—and the most common for residential lighting like regular spotlights. Commercial spaces often use 4000k, as it's a little brighter. In nature this lighting temperature is most often seen in early morning or late afternoon.

Cooler Lighting 5000k - 6000k
This temperature range closely mirrors daylight, and is often used where bright, crips light is required—like for task lighting, reading, or concentration. It's a white light, rather than blue, so neutral paint colours appear largely as they should—but you can go for more yellow undertones if warmth is desired. Mid-to-dark colours play true to daylight, too.
