Eco friendly paint is all about both the paint ingredients used, and how the paint is made and distributed. For COAT, this means using UK sourced materials to create low impact water-based paints made fresh to order, so they’re good for you and the environment.
Yes, low-VOC paints are much better for indoor air quality than solvent-based ones. Low-VOC paints emit fewer chemical nasties into air, which keeps your home environment safer and the planet less polluted.
Absolutely. Performance is at the heart of COAT paints and our sustainability mission. This means our eco-friendly paints will always give you excellent coverage and colour depth. They are a breeze to use and have best in class durability for busy spaces - meaning they'll last for years.
The type of paint finish you need depends on the job, and what you're trying to achieve. Different paint finishes are designed to excel in different areas:
Matt emulsion paint gives a soft, muted finish – ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. It's great at hiding imperfections in walls too, as it doesn't catch the light.
Eggshell emulsion paint gives a subtle, smooth finish which is highly durable, and so ideal for trim and cabinets.
Satin or Soft Sheen finishes have a slight velvety sheen and are often moisture resistant, which makes them perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, and high-traffic areas that need a lot of washing down.
Gloss is a traditional finish with a high shine and a polished finish, which is usually reserved for front doors, or internal woodwork and cabinetry. Gloss paints often have a high VOC content, so look out for that.
Most walls will need two coats for full coverage, which gives you the best colour and durability too. Darker colours or more dramatic changes may require a third coat. Fresh plaster will always need a mist coat first - which can simply be diluted emulsion paint.
Yes paint colours will always look different in natural and artificial light. Natural daylight will bring out the true colour - but if additional light is needed, warmer lights will enhance warmer tones whilst cooler LED lighting will bring our colder, blue tones.
The best way to test paint colours is to try out a painted Peel & Stick sample on your wall. As it’s the real paint, you can try it at various times of the day and move it to different walls to really see how great the colour will look in your space.
All COAT paints are high opacity, which means that with two good coats you’ll obliterate that colour underneath - no problem.
