From Blank Canvas To Full Of Character

In Walthamstow, a bright but anonymous new-build duplex has been transformed into a warm, characterful home that feels entirely its own. London-based interior design studio Consult by FD used COAT to swap blank white walls for a layered palette of earthy terracottas and soft greens. Proof that even the newest of new-builds can be full of soul.

The clients came to Consult by FD shortly after moving in. Their new home felt impersonal, and they wanted interiors that reflected who they are without compromising their sustainable values. Consult by FD took a considered approach, building on what was already there with colour, texture, bespoke joinery and thoughtful lighting, all in a palette inspired by the couple’s love of nature, craftsmanship and collected pieces.

“Sustainability was an important consideration for the clients throughout the project,” explains the studio. “They were initially drawn to the COAT colour palette, but were particularly delighted to discover the strong sustainability credentials behind both the products and the wider business model. It meant the choice felt aligned not only aesthetically with the scheme, but also with the values and priorities of the people creating the home.”

In the open-plan living and dining space, Consult by FD chose Baked, a soft, slightly aged terracotta that brings warmth and a grounded feel. It holds up beautifully in changing light, making it a considered choice for such a generous space.

Upstairs, Persipan wraps the bedroom in an effortless, timeless warmth. A gentle plaster pink that feels calm and unhurried. In the hallway, Mansard brings dramatic depth, a duck green with a quiet blue edge that contrasts beautifully with the soft pink beyond.

“We love that COAT’s colour range continues to evolve, giving us the opportunity to introduce fresh ideas and create schemes that feel individual to each project and the people who live there.” It’s an approach that shows in the finished home. By pairing COAT’s colours with bespoke joinery and a collection of much-loved pieces, Consult by FD has turned a blank canvas into a home that is calm, cohesive and full of character. One that will keep evolving with the people who live in it.
