Soft Sheen Paint FAQs
Here are all the things we typically get asked about Soft Sheen paint. But if there’s something you want to know which isn’t here, please do just drop us an email at hello@coatpaints.com.
Soft Sheen paint is designed for use in wet, or dirty areas - like Kitchens, Bathroom, or hallways and boot rooms. Engineered to be washable, it's super tough and durable - meaning you'll keep that beautifully deep colour and flawless modern finish for years to come.
Soft Sheen paint is water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. It’s perfectly formulated to cope with humidity, condensation, and splashes, making it ideal for kitchens and bathrooms - just not for direct water contact like painting the inside of showers, for example. You can wash it and wipe it as much as you like, too - which makes it great for dirty or muddy areas.
The best paint for kitchens and bathrooms is always durable, moisture-resistant, and washable. It needs to stand up to humidity, water, grease and dirt. COAT Soft Sheen is designed specifically for this, and it handles the hard knocks of daily life for years - whilst looking flawless.
Soft Sheen and Satin paint are quite similar - both sit in that mid-sheen, durable category. The difference is in the finish: COAT Soft Sheen has a subtler, lower sheen (around 15%), so it feels more like a soft pearl than a traditional satin, which can look shinier. With Soft Sheen you get the durability, without the shiny-ness.
Yes, Soft Sheen is ideal for kitchen walls. It’s designed to handle grease, food splashes, and regular cleaning, so you can wipe it down without damaging the finish.
Yes, Soft Sheen is a great choice for bathroom walls and ceilings. The water-resistant formula helps it cope with steam and condensation, keeping walls looking fresh for longer. It's also anti-mould, which can be useful in smaller spaces.
Yes, COAT Soft Sheen is a fully washable wall paint and is engineered for exactly that. You can clean marks, spills, and everyday grime without worrying about fading or damaging the finish.
In most cases, you’ll need two coats for a solid, even finish. Some lighter colours or well-prepared surfaces may get away with one, but we always recommend two coats for maximum depth of colour and durability.
Our Soft Sheen paint is made with low VOC ingredients and sourced from the UK. It’s also ultra low odour, which means no harsh paint smell lingering around. Every tin is made freshly to your order too, so there's no overproduction or waste.
Not really. Soft Sheen has a low 15% sheen level, which gives a soft, light-reflective finish without looking glossy. It brightens a space slightly, but still feels modern and understated. COAT's high-quality pigments and formulation mean that it doesn't look anything like the shiny paints you sometimes get from less premium brands.
We would always recommend Soft Sheen in the kitchen, as they often take the hardest knocks of any room in the house. Certainly for areas around the stove, or sink - anywhere you're likely to wash or clean down. If you've got a big space or an open plan kitchen/diner for example, you can always use Flat Matt for the other areas - and all COAT colours are available in both finishes.
