Frank is a ridiculously talented designer based in Brighton. Having taken the plunge in this crazy year to launch his own design studio, his clients span the globe from India back to Denmark, Latvia and the UK. Frank has worked closely with COAT to create and launch the most outrageous of shades - “Maverick”, a neon, heavily saturated mint green that can’t help but cause a stir.
“There’s nothing quite like Maverick” says Frank. “I’ve been looking for a deep saturated mint that almost looks edible for ages and there’s nothing like it anywhere! With connotations of icing sugar paired with 80’s Miami - it’s a vibe... and I think the perfect optimistic colour to kick off 2021”.

“The name ‘Maverick’ was very much a part of the whole development of the colour. The idea of being slightly unorthodox, different and well - down right outrageous is something I love" Says Frank. "It’s a colour I want people to talk about… I want some to bloody love it, and others to say it’s vile! But most of all I want people to have a reaction, and feel excited!”
Using bright or bold colours at home takes some guts, and it makes lots of people nervous. But leading with your heart when it comes to colour is the absolute best place to start. Thinking less about what “works” in your mind, and start any room makeover with a wall colour that you love. With COAT all our colours are killer, so you can’t really go wrong whatever you choose…
“COAT for me is a really exciting young brand who’s new and fresh take on the world of paint I really resonate with” says Frank. “Paint is often over complicated and can be quite intimidating at times, dominated by the big boys who’s endless shades of grey and green are used over and over again. It can be mind boggling!”
How to use Maverick at home then. Like the name suggests, it’s a bold colour so embrace it to get the maximum impact. Despite being almost neon and super poppy, Maverick is one that’ll work just as well in period homes as modern ones.
“More is more for period homes with lots of features. Use matt emulsion on your walls and plaster and eggshell on your woodwork for real Impact.” Says Frank “By painting skirting and coving the same colour you can actually make the room feel bigger too, as the eye is drawn less to the outline of the room which you get if they’re painted white…”
“For more modern homes with less architectural details, just be brave and play - why not use masking tape to create focus shapes in areas of the room? Diagonals from a corner with the added addition of a pendant light can add depth and give a quick update to the space”.
We’ve loved working with Frank to create Maverick, and we’re even more excited to see how people use it in their homes. Such a vibrant shade, it can’t help make you smile. And we’re all about more of that for 2021, so why not grab a Peel & Stick Swatch and see how it feels in your home?
