With so many paint companies out there, it can be hard to know which one to go for when it comes to choosing your next pot of paint. How can you tell whether a paint brand really knows their stuff or whether they're just winging it with over-blown claims and well-staged Instagram shots? 🤷♀️
To get to the heart of the matter, we sat down for a chat with Rob Green, co-founder of our co. and all-round decorating geek expert 🤓 Here, he gives us the lowdown on the expertise, industry know-how and love (yes, we do mean love ❤️) that goes into every single tin of COAT paint…
How come you know so much about paint?
Well, before launching COAT Paints I worked for the world's largest paint company. I learnt first hand how paint companies launch new paints just for the sake of it – to fill the shelves and make more noise – and how the choice of products can be totally overwhelming for the customer.
So when it came to setting up our own paint company, we wanted to do things differently. First things first, we wanted to take a really simple approach. Create just three finishes for interior paintwork that will cover any job you might need to do in your home. If you're painting walls and ceilings, there's our Flat matt. If it's kitchens or bathrooms, there's our Soft Sheen. And for furniture, doors and skirting boards, there's our Eggshell finish.
Plus we wanted to create a really high quality paint in a curated range of on-trend colours that's easy to use and easy to apply 🌈 It's all about putting the customer first and paring things back to what's really important.
What are your paints made from?
All the good stuff! Our high quality ingredients are all made in the UK 🇬🇧 so we've got resin from the Midlands and clays from Cornwall. Our paint and pigments are all water based which means they're low on toxins and odour which makes them perfectly safe to use in any environment.
We've all come across tins of paint that look like lumpy custard and that's because they contain lots of cheap fillers. With our paints, that doesn't happen. Our paints are formulated to have a smooth and velvety consistency which means that they give great coverage and you won't end up covered in paint splatters. They're also self-priming because of their high levels of adhesion, meaning you won't need a primer in 90% of applications, and you can get great depth of colour with just two coats.
What else do I need to know about COAT paints?
As well as producing high quality, durable paint, we're known for our above-and-beyond customer service. We can advise on colour combos and decorating tips, and if you order by 1pm we'll deliver your freshly made paint to your door the next working day 👍
If you want to try before you buy, our legendary Peel & Stick swatches are a breeze to use. These environmentally-friendly paint stickers can be peeled on and off your walls as many times as you like without leaving any marks. Genius, huh? ✨ Designed to take the headache out of choosing your perfect paint colour, our swatches give 100% colour accuracy and cost just £1 each including delivery. They also represent 95% less waste than a conventional tester pot (our swatches hold 10ml of paint instead of the typical 200ml in a tester pot) which is just part of our commitment to reducing waste and looking after the planet.
Will using COAT Paints give me a warm and fuzzy feeling?
We hope so! Looking after people and the planet is a big part of what we do here at COAT. By choosing to buy paint from us you're choosing to reduce your carbon footprint and reduce waste. Right from the start, we set up COAT as a regenerative company which means it contributes more to the world than it takes. Every decision in the business is made with an acute awareness of our environmental impact 🌎
So that means our paints are packaged using recycled and recyclable materials, and we make all our paint to order and send it straight to your door via our Carbon Neutral delivery partners. Less waste and less car trips 🌱
But we like to go further than that. Any remaining carbon footprint we have is double offset, making us the first climate positive paint company in the world. Just one of the ways in which we continue to innovate – leading the way in the industry to bring you great paint while looking after the planet. It's the COAT way.
