The Top Interior Trends for 2022

As we limp towards the end of a somewhat lacklustre year, our thoughts naturally turn towards 2022 and the chance to make a fresh and shiny new start  🙌

So what does the New Year have in store for us? And what are the key interiors trends for 2022?

Well, one thing's for sure, a blast of optimism is needed after the tricky time we've had in 2021. A good dose of cheerful colour and pattern, we hear you say?  Then throw in some nature-inspired textures for good measure? Oh yes. The interiors gods have been smiling on us and it's all here for 2022 like the biggest, warmest hug imaginable 🤗

We've trawled the latest design shows and trend forecasts to bring you our round-up of the hottest interiors trends for 2022…

INSPIRED BY NATURE

As many of us discovered during numerous lockdowns 🙄  spending time in the great outdoors can bring enormous benefits to both our physical and mental wellbeing 🌿  Little wonder then, that the trend for 'bringing the outside in' will remain strong in 2022, with greens in particular featuring heavily in our homes.

Pastel greens have been making a splash on the catwalk in recent months. And where fashion leads, you can bet interiors will follow. Pale shades such as our light teal Hamilton and medium green Home Grown are a great match for this trend. Calming, but never boring, these colours work really well on half height panelling when pared with a neutral wall colour 👌

Darker greens are also big news for 2022, especially for living rooms and kitchens. So why not refresh your kitchen cabinets with our rich green Ditch The Tie? A quick sand down followed by a couple of coats of our Eggshell paint and it'll look like you've got a whole new kitchen 🌟

A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH

Tying in with the nod to the natural world comes an increasing awareness of sustainability. Taking a planet-friendly approach is close to our hearts here at COAT Paints, so we're super excited to see the interiors industry finally starting to sit up and take notice of environmental issues 👏

Natural and sustainable materials such as wool, rattan and cork were everywhere at the design fairs this autumn. And this trend will no doubt continue into next year as the green agenda rises to the top. Upcycled and recycled materials will feature strongly in 2022, and we'll see lots of eco-friendly items such as rattan headboards, bamboo furniture and handwoven baskets.

Our timeless neutrals such as Sunday Soul, And Breathe and Good Intentions provide the perfect backdrop for textural loveliness such as grained woods, woollen throws and seagrass accessories. And as our paints are climate positive and low toxin, by choosing COAT Paints you'll be doing your little bit for the planet 😇

OPTIMISTIC MAXIMALISM

There's a move towards bringing more joy into our homes for 2022, and who are we to argue? A much-needed tonic of positivity is on its way in the form of bright, optimistic colours and daring patterns. Embrace this gutsy approach with our tangerine-toned My Island or our vibrant turquoise Pool House. Pair these strong shades with bold florals, candy stripes and brightly-coloured lamps to bring guaranteed smiles into your home 😃

With a greater emphasis on entertaining at home, we're also seeing a rise in bold and beautiful tablescapes celebrating opulence and excess. Think sculptural table ornaments, statement candlesticks and lots of coloured glassware. So what if you're only ordering in Deliveroo. It's still gotta look glam, right? 💋

RUSTIC RETRO

It may not be for everyone, but 70s style is back with a bang so it's time to brace yourself for a retro explosion! Bold, geometric patterns and a 70s-inspired colour palette are going to be everywhere in 2022, so why not jump on board, baby, and go with the flow? ️

A nostalgic nod to a happier era may well be just what we need. But if you're not ready to go the whole hog with a sunken seating area and an avocado bathroom suite, you can still join in with macramé plant pot holders, fringed lampshades, rustic pottery and bouclé fabrics 🐑

When it comes to colour, our grubby yellow Moritz and dark red The Old Corset Factory are pretty darn groovy. And our new range of heritage colours developed in collaboration with iconic retailer Heal's has some seriously cool, retro shades 😎

CURVES & ORGANIC SHAPES

We could all benefit from chilling out more in 2022 and bringing curved shapes into our homes can help us do just that. Not only do organic shapes reflect those found in nature, they are also said to have a stronger emotional impact on us than straight lines. So when we fill our homes with on-trend curved sofas, furniture and lighting, we are creating a welcoming and comforting environment for ourselves and our guests.

These gentle, flowing motifs work perfectly against a pale, pared-back canvas so why not combine curves with one of our warm neutrals such as brownish grey Sunday Soul or butterscotch beige Pudding? 👌
