Why do I need an exterior paint?
When you’re painting outdoors you need a different type of paint compared to the inside if you want a finish that lasts. Exterior paints need to be even more durable than the ones you’d use inside your home, to stand up to changing temperatures and weather conditions. A good quality exterior paint should look flawless no matter the season, and won’t flake or fade either.
Exterior paint should also flex with the temperature change across the seasons, yet stay totally weather-resistant - so whatever you’ve decided to paint it should still look brill after a spell of late summer sun or a spring deluge.
You also don’t need to sacrifice eco-creds just because it needs to be a tougher product. A good exterior paint like COAT can still be water-based and low VOC, so don’t accept anything less.

Why is COAT exterior paint so great, then?
We’ve developed a high-grade water-based formula which uses a unique combination of the best ingredients and pigments. So we're a bit biased sure... but let’s tell you why we think COAT Exterior Eggshell is best exterior paint out there...
It's Super Hardy
It’s the basics right, but obviously COAT Exterior Eggshell is our most durable yet, something you can hose down and clean, yet sticks hard to all manner of surfaces. Developed with our resident paint scientists with over 40 years in the game... COAT exterior eggshell paint is made to last season after season.
It’s mould and water resistant too, so have no fear – wherever you’re looking to use our exterior paint – it’ll stand up to the task.
Paint that looks this good, for years to come. COAT Exterior Eggshell.
It'll Last For Years
Our exterior paint contains a shedload of super rich pigment - unique to the exterior colour palette, so it'll stand up to harsh sunlight. COAT exterior eggshell is available across the full COAT colour palette, so you can keep it chilled with our neutrals, fresh with the pastels, or go maxi with our bolds. The eggshell finish is a premium off-matt luxe look with a 20% sheen.
It's Kind To The Planet (and all things in it)
All our formulations are water-based, Low VOC and low odour, so better for the environment. There’s no need to compromise when it comes to your exterior. Free from solvents, minimising toxins and totally carbon neutral our Exterior Eggshell Paint is a more sustainable choice.

It’s a Doddle To Use
COAT Exterior Eggshell makes it easy to get on with your project. We recommend painting in 10 degrees and above for a quick dry time. It should be touch dry after an hour and ready for a second coat after four. You should only need two coats, and unlike others COAT paint will level to a super smooth finish when drying. On average it covers 10m2 per litre, and when you’re cleaning up just use some warm soapy water.
Get moody with Masonry. Use COAT on brick and stone work, no probs.
Where should I use exterior paint?
COAT exterior eggshell is really versatile and designed to work on a range of outdoor surfaces. Exterior wood paint, metal paint or masonry paint, call it what you will - the possibilities for an exterior glow-up are endless. From doors and windows, to garages, gates, sheds and fences – even sprucing up planters and furniture, it’s time to get your COAT.
COAT Exterior paint is perfect for outdoor wood like Front Doors, Fences and Sheds
If you’re using our paint on new metal, composite, UPVC or any surfaces that are unstable you’ll need to follow the prep guidance but also apply a water-based exterior primer too. This will ensure you have a lasting finish. COAT Exterior Eggshell isn’t suitable for decking or floors - they'll get too slippery.
Do the Prep
Also always make sure you prep exterior surface properly. Honestly, it's worth it. Give surfaces a good clean down first, then make sure your surface is nice and dry before giving it a sand. That will make sure the paint sticks really well. Brush it down and then you’re good to paint. Remember, for any tricky plastic or new metal surfaces you’ll need a water-based primer coat to prepare the surface correctly, before applying COAT Exterior Eggshell. If in doubt, just drop us a message.
