Spring is well and truly here, and the greys of winter are well and truly behind us. Maybe it’s the weather, or maybe it’s the buzz of people on the streets again but something in the air is making us crave a shot of colour.
Using bold colours doesn’t always need to mean painting an entire room. A piece of furniture, a door, woodwork or even just a single wall can be exactly the right thing to get colour-brave with.
With that in mind, let’s meet our No.31 in May. Created by the incredibly creative talent behind Jarega Interior & Designs (and all-round lovely person), Charlotte Jarega - this is ‘Oh Boysenberry’.

I love my job, and love helping people love their spaces again! Oh Boysenberry is a fun dark colour, designed to make your room feel cosy and add a bit of sassiness!”
“So what the hell is a Boysenberry?” - Everyone. Well, think like a giant hybrid raspberry/blackberry fruit and you’re pretty much there. In berry speak, Oh Boysenberry isn’t a cranberry red, it’s deeper and richer than a raspberry pink, and paler than a blackberry purple. Every day’s a school day, huh?

“The deep rich maroon colour of Oh Boysenberry looks completely different in direct sunlight, and can look deliciously dark and moody in low light.” says Charlotte. “I wanted the name to reflect the colour, making it fun and inviting for you to play with.”

Charlotte created Oh Boysenberry especially for an interior design client’s project, which centred around a beautifully crafted bar as part of the re-designed space. Alongside a palette of other rich shades, Oh Boysenberry was designed to add some richness and drama to the space in a specific area - the bar.

“My clients’ father is a retired joiner so when I suggested using a large alcove in the space to create a bar, she knew it was going to be even more special if he made the bar himself” says Charlotte. “When I was looking for inspiration for the bar colour, I had Claridge’s bar “The Fumoir” in mind. I wanted to create a rich, almost sexy colour, that could work alongside a dark palette.”

"The room has three natural light sources, so I knew a darker palette would work amazingly - although it was a point I had to stress all the time, that it wouldn’t make the room feel smaller!” says Charlotte. “Oh Boysenberry works perfectly with the dark blue-green of The Drink along with the brass accents and the beautiful wallpaper we’ve used as a backsplash.”

This colour is a rich one, and the palette Charlotte used here is pretty brave for most folks. If you like the colour but don’t fancy dark shades all over, think about wardrobe doors, drawer fronts, a single wall or even a front door in Oh Boysenberry. It’s a unique shade - if you love it, you’ll love it
