There's a big yellow thing in the sky again. I think that means it's Summer?! Anyway, it's definitely June and definitely time for COAT to drop a new shade - this time in collaboration with the perfect stylistic pairing of Jo & Chris from @two.men.and.a.semi.
Sunny, spirited, and a little tongue-in-cheek... meet Elio, a warm neutral Peach by Jo and Chris. This name might trigger peachy memories (if you know, you know...) or it might need explaining a bit more. Either way here's our No.31 Limited Run for June showcased spectacularly in the guys new bedroom... meet Elio 🍑
Chris & Jo are the effortlessly stylish pair behind @two.men.and.a.semi on Insta
“In a nutshell, we'd describe our style as 'Neutral Mid-Century Modern” says Jo "We love the simple, functional style of mid-century furniture and the timelessness of neutral colours. We're not wedded to whites though - neutral colours to us are ones that let the furnishings a details sing - and that doesn't always mean white"
Jo & Chris worked with COAT designers to craft the perfect pale peach shade from an infinite palette that was both bright and earthy, without being brash. Neutrals are COAT's heartland, so creating this bespoke colour with a timeless characteristic and a cheeky splash of colour was well up our Carbon Neutral street 🌿
This sunny peach Elio is deliberate, but subtle
"We'd been looking for a beautiful earthy pink-peach tone for a long time and could never find the right one... until now" says Jo. "We wanted a subtle colour that worked with natural materials like bare wood and stone, and an earthy Olive green bed frame too. Something grown-up, not bubblegum, with a happy feel"
Elio by Jo and Chris is used in a sunny bedroom for a touch of morning glory
“The room was very white before, and was looking a little anaemic" says Jo. "It needed some colour but we wanted it to be cohesive with the neutrals we've used in the rest of the house. For neutral fans like us to use colour, it has to be calm not 'shout-y' and let the subtle natural materials really sing without overpowering."
Elio works so effortlessly with rustic materials and earthy colours
So what about the name, Elio? Well if you know, you know, and are probably smiling right now. "It's a cheeky nod to a forbidden Gay romance set in the Italian countryside" says Jo. "The main character in the film is Elio, who's coming to terms with his sexuality - on occasion with a Peach... It's a confident story with a timeless message about openness that rings pretty true this Pride month."
The vintage fire surround and botanicals add a tonal contrast to Elio in the room
"Elio is a colour best used in rooms with plenty of natural light" says Jo. "The tone of it changes throughout the day, skewing from a very pale peach in sunny southern light to a warm earthy shade in the darker evenings. We've used it in our bedroom, and in the morning light it's a really energising colour."
Use Elio in sunny rooms with plenty of exposed wood and rustic accessories
We're calling Elio a neutral - controversially - because by nature it lends itself to playing with others. Ahem. It creates the perfect up-lifting backdrop for other natural and earthy tones, rather than overpowering. Pastel blues and pinks, and bold colours, don't do that - but Elio as a neutral is just perfect.
When the sun's out and we're feeling summery, Elio is just about bang on the money for bringing a spot of colour into the home. We'd use it straight away in sunny bedrooms or nurseries, paired with bare wood and natural-feeling cottons. Plants too, plenty of plants. Why not grab Swatches and try for yourself?
What is No.31 from COAT?
We think colours should come from people, with real stories to tell. Each month COAT launches a new colour on-top of our existing palette. Designed to perfectly suit a real person and their real home - it’s about launching beautiful colours that inspire. And we get to have even more fun with colour names, obvs.
